Before cutting of ...
Before cutting of any of the door, get it hung and then make adjustments. The process of pinning it and unpinning takes? about 10 seconds and ensures accuracy. The lead edges should be beveled, especially with 1 3/4" thick doors. Finally, if my 13 year old could not perform a hinge mortise better than that, I would be disappointed. Trace the round hinge and use a router or laminate trimmer with a spiral downcut bit. Depth is assured and it won't look like you did it with crayons and a hatchet.

I am a contractor too. I use a product called EzHang. It comes with 7 brackets to install interior prehungs. I can install doors in under 5 minutes? each. I can even trust some of the guys without much experience to hang doors now. Give them try, you'll be surprised.

I'm a carpenter and was looking around for some little tips that might help me save some time on site. I can tell you something. You don't hang doors like that. Never trace around the? old door! How do you know its edges are square. In fact before power planers became so popular,most carpenters planed leading edges into doors.

what if you don't have the old door for marking the hinges? could i just measure from the top of the old frame to the existing frame top mortise, then measure between the other two and apply to the? new door? If I do that, how do i know how far from the edge to mark for the new hinges? Dont wanna do it wrong and end up with a lopsided alignment or bind once installed =/

There is a much easier way of hanging interior doors now. You no longer need to shim or do all the hard work of plumbing(leveling). There? is a new product that is available online at the home depots website. Its called the quick door hanger. A beginner can literally hang a door in under 15 minutes with just a level and a power drill using these 5 dollar bracket kits.youtube "how to hang a door express products". I recommend it to everyone.

you? probably need a new door if its just a tiny tiny tiny bit. those are the worst. if the door was only half as big as the opening,you could at least keep adding shims infinitely to it until it fit. sandpaper is just going to make a mess. i wouldn't recomend using it unless you're trying to polish something.

Why would you make square corners or use rounded hinges. That looks like a 1/4" Router bit would have made a perfect corner. that is a sloppy looking job.?
